Local Children Spread Joy with Half-Term Performance at Coventry Care Home

In a heart-warming display of compassion, a group of spirited young volunteers from Sewa Day Coventry, aged between 8 and 14, recently took center stage at Abbey Park Care Home, leaving a lasting impact on the elderly residents, many of whom are living with dementia. The event, held on February 16th, 2024, marked a significant milestone in the organisation’s ongoing efforts to extend support to the vulnerable sections of the community.

Sewa Day Coventry, a dedicated charity organisation, has been actively involved in making a profound difference, particularly in the realm of feeding those in need. Collaborating with seven schools in the Coventry area, the organisation ensures the provision of food during half-term breaks throughout the year.

The brainchild behind this impactful initiative is a passionate volunteer, Maathangi Iyer, who believes in channelling efforts towards key areas such as the environment, and the well-being of vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and victims of domestic abuse.

Motivated by the desire to bring joy to senior citizens throughout the year, the young volunteers showcased their talents in music, dance, and interactive games during the recent event at Abbey Park Care Home. The performance, well-received by the residents, demonstrated the power of youthful exuberance in creating moments of connection and happiness.

Expressing enthusiasm about the initiative, the volunteer shared, “We believe that every season is a season for giving, and choirs and performances in care homes shouldn’t be limited to December.” The event not only showcased the children’s talents but also fostered a sense of community and intergenerational connection.

With a vision for sustainability, the Maathangi aims to continue and expand this initiative, encouraging a broader audience to join the cause and contribute their time and talents.
